Shopify is retooling its transaction structure with the goal of making it a more competitive option to in-store payments giant Square. Shopify raised the percentage it takes off each transaction from 2.5% to 2.7% however Shopify will no longer charge merchants an additional 30 cent fee per transaction. Likewise, Square has recently adjusted their per-swipe rates.
