Ebay’s PayPal has acquired Chicago-based payments gateway company Braintree. Braintree powers and automates online payments for merchants and companies online. This acquisition will allow Braintree to expand its prospects. “The alignment with PayPal means Braintree can continue to push the boundaries of innovation and expand into new markets with more speed and confidence.” Braintree has become a one-stop-shop for all the services a business needs to receive payments from anywhere in the world.

Eyewear maker Warby Parker stopped by Advertising Week and shared some insight into the future of retailing. Co-CEO Neil Blumenthal says, “The future of retail is the convergence of brick & mortar and eCommerce”. Warby Parker started out as an eCommerce retailer with the vision of solely connecting with consumers online. However, in the last four months Warby Parker has modified its business model to include brick and mortar stores in order to enhance its retail presence. As a result of the company’s converging new retail strategy, Warby Parker is able to give consumers a holistic shopping experience.

Google Expands Same-Day Delivery Service

Five months after Google unveiled an experimental same-day delivery service for parts of the San Francisco, Bay Area, the Internet giant is preparing to expand its same-day delivery service more shoppers across the region. Google will offer same-day delivery to San Francisco, Peninsula & San Jose. This strategy has allowed eBay and now Google, to corner a portion of the retail market that Amazon has not done so already. “Amazon can get you almost anything under the sun in one or two days,” said Matt Nemer, a retail analyst with Wells Fargo. “But Amazon doesn’t have one- or two-hour delivery. This is an attempt to beat them to the punch.”

Lands’ End Launches Canadian eCommerce

Canadian eCommerce sales are expected to grow 10% annually over the next five years generating about $33.8 billion by 2018. With Canadian eCommerce on the rise, it’s no wonder why companies are launching Canadian eCommerce sites. Lands’ End a unit of Sears Holding Corp. has launched a new eCommerce site for Canadians. Online shoppers visiting will now see pricing in Canadian dollars along with full cost of shipping. Canadian shoppers get free shipping on orders of $50 or more.

The leaves have just started to show the first signs confirming the end of summer and the start of fall. But retailers are already fast forwarding through the season and getting ready for Christmas! This year, there are 25 days between the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday Nov 29) and Christmas. So what’s the significance? Customers have only four, not five full weekends to shop for gifts. Although market researchers predict double-digit growth in the U.S for online retail sales, retailers have a reduced window of time to capture peak holiday spending.
