This week, Shopify announces it has raised $100 million in Series C funding. Some of Shopify’s new partners include OMERS Ventures and Insight Venture Partners along with Bessemer Venture Partners, FirstMark Capital, Georgian Partners and Felicis Ventures. Focused with the goal of making it easy for people to create an online store, the company’s launch of Shopify POS is an indication of what’s to come.

The future of snail mail is looking a little grim for Canada Post as the company announces changes to it’s door-to-door delivery service. Cities will be switched to a system of “centralized mail points” where letters will be available for pick-up. It is still unclear as to Canada Post’s exact plan or its affects.

2013 Canadian Black Friday Participation Lower than Expected

A poll conducted by retail consultancy firm DIG360 found, that the number of Canadian spending on Black Friday was significantly below some estimates leading up to Black Friday. In the days leading up to Black Friday, BMO reported that 47% of Canadians were planning to take advantage of the deep discounts of the day. DIG360 reports 28% of Canadians browsed Black Friday deals but opted out of the purchases. Quebec residents (17%) had the lowest participation in Black Friday.

It’s been a strong mobile holiday season so far for eBay Inc. The online marketplace tracked 91% year-over-year increase in the number of transactions through PayPal on mobile devices. This is good news for eCommerce operators as it demonstrates the growth in mobile commerce, however 15.5% of retailer’s encountered fraudulent returns on using electronic receipt in October and November of this year. Although recent efforts to combat fraudulent activity are slowly working, criminals are becoming more savvy and technologically advanced in their methods, making it difficult for retailers and law enforcement to keep up.
