Which Device is Driving Profits for Online Retailers?
We measured purchases by device from across our customer base and found that the average order value on Desktop is nearly 20% than Mobile!
Big Purchases are Made on Bigger Screens
Mobile certainly matters for retailers as customers are increasingly mobile-centric, but in our retailer data we found that the bigger transactions are still being made on desktops.
The data in our latest eCommerce Benchmark shows that the customer path to purchase is slowly evolving. Mobile usage is on the uptake, but is primarily used for research purposes as payment forms are finicky and checkouts are complicated on smaller screens. Desktop holds advantages for consumers, with smoother payment processes and the ability to quickly bounce between tabs for research and plenty of screen-space available.
Optimize to Meet Customer Expectations
Retailers should spend their time optimizing for desktop, while investing in being mobile-friendly, to meet the expectations of customers and the shifting buyer journey. Understand that this is lifecycle dependent for now, as mobile is primarily used for research, and user-experience constraints on smaller screens disrupt the path to purchase.
