New Year, new you – so the saying goes, right? Technically, yes. 2016 will be a big year for change in the commerce world. It already has been for our team and partners, with the launch of new builds and products including the much anticipated general release of Magento 2. One thing we’ll continue to talk about in 2016 is mobile.
In February of 2015 we published our eCommerce trends eBook, which highlighted the steady rise of mobile commerce. In a few short years mobile became a key trend in the industry. Seemingly ever-evolving, mobile breaks the boundaries between the physical and digital, transforming it into a main touchpoint of the buying journey.
The Move to Mobile Commerce
In Q3 of 2015, the insights we uncovered in our Magento merchant’s data only further supported our mobile trend claim. We found that mobile is slowly becoming the main device for online shoppers to browse and buy online, influencing overall commerce in a big way, making it the next frontier for retailers. The future of Mobile
Mobile’s traction will only increase in 2016. By 2020 Business Intelligence reports that mobile commerce will make up 45% of overall eCommerce, translating to $284 billion in sales. Influenced heavily by digital natives (a.k.a millennials), more will be spent online using a mobile device, and retailers will respond by creating more mobile buying opportunities in 2016.
